The First Post

My name is Kim Purcell. I’m an ESL teacher living in Los Angeles and I’m going to help you speak English fluently.

For the last ten years, I’ve taught English to a wide variety of students from countries all over the world and I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor, old or young, beginner or advanced. You can become a fluent English speaker.

When I first moved to LA, I taught lower income Spanish-speaking mothers in the Lennox school district, one of the poorest neighborhoods in LA. For six years, I also taught wealthy professionals and students at the most expensive private ESL school in Los Angeles – Kaplan in Westwood – where people came from Turkey, Japan, Korea, China, Italy, Brazil, France and many more countries.

My students have been very different, but they share many similarities. Those who failed to learn quickly made the same mistakes, just as those who became fluent in a few months did the same things right.

Anyone can learn English, but you need to focus. There is one single key to learning English. You need to surround yourself with English all day long.

How do you surround yourself with English? You need to listen to English music and radio. You need to speak only English. You need to think in English. You need to stop talking to friends who insist on speaking your native language. You need to believe in your ability to be successful.

When you start to dream in English, you’ll know that you are coming closer to being fluent in English. Good luck!

  1. Looks great! I’ll definitely pass this on to my advanced clients, and post it on ReadableBlog. Maybe we should blogroll each other?
